CHRIST CHANGES WATER INTO WINE (the first miracle of Jesus)
∗ Running out of wine was a critical situation in a marriage. It is risking the reputation of host’s family.
∗ Mary, knowing about it, alerting Jesus about the problem, suggests that she was related to the host.
∗ The above incident lead the scholars to think that the human father of Jesus, Joseph was dead already and that’s why Mary approached Jesus, who was the first born son and who had to take the responsibilities of the family.
∗ Jesus’ response may seem to be harsh, but it’s not.
∗ Calling Mary “woman” was roughly equivalent to calling someone a “dear lady.” It was a respectful, but distant term.
∗ Stone water pots were used for purification rites for cleansing hands and feet before a meal.
∗ Filling the six water pots is no small task. They hold 240 gallons of liquid. The servants obeyed Jesus’ instructions immediately.
∗ The significance of this miracle shows that Jesus is the self-revelation of God in all His glory.
Lord, let’s reveal God’s glory in every walk of our lives. Amen.
Glory be to God.
