The Parable of Servants Continued……..TheFaithful Servant…… and watchful servants….

The Faithful or the Unfaithful Servantimages
Luke 12: 41-48; Matthew 24: 45-51
Jesus speaks about the second coming.
∗ We are the servants of God.
∗ Are we ready to receive Him?
∗ Jesus tells the disciples the two kinds of servants – the servant who waits for the master with all preparation to receive Him at any time and the  servant who is not prepared to welcome him, when he delays a day in coming back home.
The faithful servant:
∗ He is wise and he is busy doing what he is supposed to be doing, when his master comes. He is the believer of the Lord.
The unfaithful servant
∗ He is unfaithful, foolish and hypocritical that he will not be ready with what the master requires. He is the unbeliever of the Lord.
Peter’s question Luke 12:41
Then Peter said to Him, “Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all people?”
Jesus’ explanation
∗ Jesus doesn’t respond to Peter’s request for clarification, but He gives additional clues to what He means.
∗ If directed to individuals, Jesus’ words sound uncomfortably severe.
∗ The nation of Israel is the “servant, which knew his Lord’s will.”
∗ Because they are not ready to receive Jesus, they are “cut…..In sunder”(that is dispersed) and assigned a place with the unbelieving Gentiles.
∗ The church will be in charge of Master’s possession. (including both believing Jews and Gentiles) They must be accountable to God.
∗ Whether eagerly waiting or dreading it, one’s attitude towards the second coming is the result of his response to His first coming.

The Watchful Servants
Luke 12: 35-40
∗ Keeping the lamps burning was important in a culture without electricity and street lights. It was a sign of keep awaiting.
∗ Jesus tells two parallel stories, both of which emphasise the importance of readiness for His coming, yet with a vastly different results.
∗ Both stories involve an unscheduled visitor.
∗ The difference, however, is the relationship between those in the house and the one who will be arriving.
∗ The faithful servants those who are alert and ready are rewarded for their watchfulness.
∗ The image of master attending to his servants was unusual in the first century.
∗ In the second story Jesus speaks of a homeowner, who has no interest in visitors. In this case, the return of the Son of Man is described in terms of an unexpected thief who breaks into the house.
∗ In all the above mentioned parables of Jesus, He talks about His second coming. It’s up to us to believe His Word.
Let’s us pray…..
Lord, let’s believe in You and look forward for Your second coming.
Lord, let’s be ready always to receive you, when you knock at our doors. Amen.
Glory be to God
