PERTER’S EXPLANATION TO THE CROWD ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRITimages-2-1
Peter made it clear to the crowd about the coming of the Holy Spirit. He proved that the phenomenon the crowds had witnessed was not the result of too much wine, but the fulfilment of Joel’s prophecy, Joel 2 : 28 – 32
* Joel is a gloomy book, written about a period, when an invasion of locusts had destroyed every green plant, creating a national disaster for the Israel ‘s agrarian economy.
* Rather than soothing the people with promise of comfort, Joel told them that their situation would get worse.
* Yet in the midst of such gloom, Joel promised that God would pour out His Spirit and provide salvation for everyone who would call on His name.

PETER’S SECOND REFERENCE
Peter quoted Psalm 16 : 8 – 11.
∗ Although, it was written a thousand years before Christ, Peter in his speech pointed out David’s tomb. His body had seen decay.
* So Jesus is therefore the Holy One referred to in Psalms 16 : 10 who had overcome death and grave as prophesied by David long ago.

PETER’S THIRD REFERENCE
Peter referred Psalm 110 : 1
∗ The act of putting Jesus to death is  overshadowed by God’s action of raising Him from the dead.
∗The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
∗ This verse is referenced in the New Testament at least twenty five times.
* The first ‘LORD’ is the Hebrew word ‘ ‘Yeweh’ referring to the great God of Israel.
* The second, ‘Lord’ is the word adoni, meaning is a individual greater than the speaker.
* So David is saying that God invites another person, someone greater than David, to sit at His right hand.
* Peter again clarifies that this significant individual is none other than the Messiah.

PETER’S REFERENCE ON EARLY CHURCHES
* It was a model for worship both collectively in the Temple and in smaller groups in homes.
* There was discipleship and caring for one another.
* There was evangelization and serving.
* The fear or godly awe that fills the people is reflected in their attitude, relationships and giving.
* Each and every aspect of their lives reflected godliness.

Let’s pray……
Lord, let’s always reflect the godliness in the walk of our lives. Amen
Glory be to God
